I followed all the instructions….couldn’t view the LAN-guard GUI…..created a support ticket….response was to look at the documentation….which is bad. No Troubleshooting help. Can’t get anyone on the phone.

Sounds like a terrific product, but can’t confirm that it’s working because I can’t access its GUI. Maybe version 2 will be better…I’m ready to return mine.

When the press release came out about the Addlogix LAN-GUARD, it piqued my interest because this one box says that it can protect the entire home network from viruses, hackers, and can also block access to P2P and messenger apps. I thought this is perfect for me having two teenage kids, and a husband who is not too savvy avoiding fake websites, ads, and opening dubious attachments in emails. This $149 box would save me $90 a year in subscription fees to Anti-Virus software, and Addlogix states that they include three years free worth of updates. So in 3 years, that’s $270 I will save on software , netting me $120 in my pocket.

But then I asked, what if I take my laptop out of my house? I am no longer protected by the LAN-GUARD box! Luckily, Microsoft just came out with their Microsoft Security Essentials – free software from good `ol M$ which includes anti-virus and malware protection. Between the MSE and the Addlogix LAN-GUARD, I think all my computers are protected end-to-end, even outside the house, or if my daughter’s friends happen to stick in an infect USB thumb drive into their laptop.

One last thing about the LAN-GUARD, since it protects the whole network, it also protects my work Macbook, NAS hdd, IP nanny-cam and Vonage VoIP from hackers. So far, so good. I haven’t noticed a slowdown in browsing or downloading speeds, and I haven’t gotten any viruses yet.
